MVFD Member Spotlight

Kevin Pomeroy is MVFD’s current longest standing active member. Kevin is an eighth generation Mont Vernonite. His family tree dates to the original inception of the town. Many of you may know Kevin from the Pomeroy Farm on Amherst Road where he’s a third-generation dairy farmer.

Volunteering runs deep in Kevin ‘s family. His father, Keith Pomeroy, was also a member of the Fire Department for over 25 years and was the Assistant Chief around the time when Kevin joined in the mid 1970’s. Additionally, all three of Kevin’s brother, Kirk, Greg, and Jesse, were members of the MVFD. Kevin’s wife, Jessica, is a very active member of the community, currently a leading member of the Mont Vernon Beautification Committee.

Kevin’s responsibility progressively grown over the decades. After several years on the Department, he rose through the ranks from Firefighter to Lieutenant to Captain to Deputy Chief to Chief. While doing this, he also became involved in other aspects of the town. Kevin has been member of the Recreation Committee, and at one point the chairman. He has been a member of a Planning Board as well and presently is a member of the Lamson Farm Commission.

Presently, Kevin is the Assistant Fire Chief and is the town’s Forest Fire Warden, a state appointed position, which responsible for rules and regulations for outside burning within the town.

Kevin’s time in the Fire Department, while spanning more than four decades, has been quite rewarding for himself as well as the town. Kevin was Fire Chief at the time the current fire station was proposed and built, replacing our old 1947 fire station.   Kevin’s worked on improving safety and equipment for the Department and the town; including the 1980 Pierce, protective gear, self-contained breathing apparatus, and coordinating a federal grant to purchase the 2004 Tanker truck.

We are proud to highlight Kevin in our first volunteer spotlight. Through the rest of the year, we will highlight all our members so that you can see who the Volunteers of your Fire Department are.
