Lamson Farm Day on Saturday, Sept. 23

The annual celebration at town-owned Lamson Farm will take place the last Saturday of the month, as always: Sept. 23, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We need help! 20 crockpots of beans are needed, and we used to ask for 60 pies. However if you would prefer to make cakes, cookies bars or something else,  please volunteer via email at moxiesix@aol.com, or call or text Zoe Fimbel  at (603) 440-5602 - or respond on one of the Facebook posts.

School is opening!

Tuesday, Sept. 5, is the first day of school at Mont Vernon Village School. School starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m., so if you're driving near the school be prepared for a little traffic at that time! Amherst Middle School and Souehgan  High School start on Sept. 5 as well.

Heritage Commission fall fundraiser - spring bulbs and plants

The Heritage Commission has partnered with Three Rivers Plant and Wreath Co. for fall/winter/spring fundraisers to benefit the Town Hall Rehabilitation Project. Our Fall Fundraiser is going on now and includes spring bulbs and indoor plants shipped direct to you, or 8.25” potted mums (5 colors to choose from) for PICK UP ONLY at the Town Hall. Pick up will be scheduled for the weekend of September 16/17. Up to 50% of the purchase price will go directly to the Heritage Fund to be used toward the Town Hall Rehabilitation Project. Fall Harvest Market - new event from the Library

The Friends of the Library are excited to announce a new event on Saturday, Sept 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mont Vernon Village School. Grab your shopping bags and swing by the FALL HARVEST MARKET for the following items.

  • Book Sale
  • Junque Jewels
  • Halloween Costumes
  • Daffodil Bulbs by the Bag

Drop by from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a yummy hot lunch from our Chili & Chowder Bar.  We will also have live music by Glitter & Camo, face painting, free kids crafts and a Scarecrow Contest! Make a scarecrow and drop it off Friday Sept. 29, 4 to 8 p.m. at the school to be judged Saturday for prizes!

The Friends of the Daland Memorial Library happily accept cash, check or Venmo. All proceeds go back to support library projects and programs. Donations gladly accepted for the following items.

News from Daland Library

Hooks & Needles - Grab you needlework project and meet us under the library event tent for an afternoon of crafting on Friday Sept. 8, noon to 2 p.m. New members welcome!

Adult Painting Night - Sign up to paint watercolor sunflowers at the library on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m.  All supplies including sunflowers will be provided. Registration required. Just 12 spots available. Call 673-7888 to save a spot. Sponsored by a gift in memory of Hazel Milligan.

Fall Lapsit & Storytime - Miss JoAnn is ready for Fall Lapsit & Storytime! Sign the kids up for a 6 week session of songs, stories, and crafts on Thursdays starting Sept. 21st-Ocotber 26th.  Registration required. Call 673-7888, email the library at dalandlibrary@comcast.net, or stop in to sign up.  Check your calendar for the times and dates. Lapsit- Thursdays at 11:00 AM. Ages 0-3 yrs old. Storytime- Thursdays at 1:00PM Ages 3-6 yrs old.

Back to School, Back to Junior Book Clubs - Junior Book Clubs are starting up again at the library!  Join Miss JoAnn once a month for a book discussion, snack, and craft on Wednesdays at 3:00pm after school. Registration required. Books will arrive in September and meetings will begin in October. Call 673-7888, email dalandlibrary@comcast.net or stop in to sign up.  Groups are as follows. 

  • Eager Reader- 1st & 2nd Grade/1st Wednesday of the month.
  • Bonkers for Books- 3rd & 4th Grade/2nd Wednesday of the month
  • Page Turners- 5th & 6th Grade/ 3rd Wednesday of the month

Coffee & Books - Stop in the library on Tuesdays this fall for a free cup of coffee or tea and a cookie! Program begins Tuesday, October 3 during open hours. Sponsored by the Friends of the Daland Memorial Library.

Library Garden Clean Up - Did you know the Friends of the Library help maintain the library gardens?  Grab a pair of garden gloves and your clippers to help the Friends clean up the library gardens in preparation for winter.  Volunteer gardeners will help will cut back perennials garden beds and help plant spring bulbs on Monday, October 9 from 9:00am-11:00am. Join us!


Town Museum open

The Mont Vernon Town Museum, on the second floor of town hall, will be open the third Saturday of every month through October from 1 to 4 p.m. Come check it out and see everything from the location of the five (yes, five) public schools that once operated in town, the counter of the old Post Office that was behind the General Store, and our extremely rare sample of the tea from the original Boston Tea Party.

The museum will be open September 16 and October 21 from 1 to 4 p.m., and on Veterans Day Nov. 11, time to be determined.

Nature photo contest deadline Sept. 8

If you like to capture nature’s beauty in photos, consider the New Hampshire Association of Conservation Commissions as part of our Water, Wetlands, and Wildlife in the Natural World photo contest. Mont Vernon Conservation Commission is a member of the state association.

The contest is are primarily looking for photographs that inspire the preservation of our natural environment. Winners in each category will receive $250 and Honorable Mentions will receive $50.  A complete list of rules can be found on the NHACC website. The contest uses an on-line platform called ArtCall https://2023-nhacc-photo-contest.artcall.org/users/login to host entries into the contest. TContestants will be able to edit or change their entry any time before midnight on September 8.


Patriotic Purpose Veterans Day

The Mont Vernon Patriotic Purposes Committee will host their annual Veterans Day appreciation reception on November 11 at 1 pm in the Community Room at the Fire Department. Retired flags will be collected. Light refreshments and a short program will be offered. Open to Veterans, their family and friends, and the public to say thank you to our Veterans.
