Messiah Sing!

Please join us for the 35th annual Messiah Sing! concerts. Performances are scheduled for the Mont Vernon Congregational Church on Saturday, December 2nd at 7:30 PM and at the Milford United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 3rd at 4:00 PM. This is a free concert and a free will offering will be taken.


PTA Winter Wonderland

The Mont Vernon Village School's PTA's Winter Wonderland is Saturday, December 2nd, 6-8pm at MVVS. This is a community wide event. The cost is $10 per family. Photos with Santa, storytime with Miss JoAnn, gingerbread cookie decorating, holiday games and activities, face painting by Mrs. Claus, and more!


Daland Memorial Library 

Library Building Committee Presentation
Save the Date! Wednesday, Dec. 6th 6:30pm Mont Vernon Village School You're Invited!! Members of the Library Trustees, Sophia G. Daland Trustees, DSK Architects + Planners, Turnstone Construction and Library Building Committee will be at the Mont Vernon Village School to present the updated vision for the new library and answer community questions about the project. Join us for the presentation and please bring your questions and concerns to share. A new 3D model of the site and building will be on display. We hope you can join us.

Holiday Pajama Storytime
Find your favorite pajamas and join us on Thursday, Dec 7th at 6:00pm for holiday stories and bedtime snacks! Ages 3 & up. Call 673-7888 to let us know your coming. Space is limited.

Cookbook Club Cookie Swap
Get out your best Christmas cookie recipes and join us for a special meeting of Cookbook Club on Monday, Dec. 4th at 6:30pm. Make a double batch of your best cookie and bring it to the library for a cookie swap! We'll have large platters available for you to fill and take home. New members always welcome. Hooks & Needles
Holiday Hooks & Needles meeting on Friday, Dec. 8th at the Mont Vernon Fire Department from 12-2. Bring your needlework project to work on and share. New members welcome! Bring a treat to pass for this special holiday meeting.

Coffee & Books
Drop in the library on Tuesdays for a cup of free coffee or tea and cookies compliments of the Friends of the Library. Meet a friend, browse for books and stay to chat.  Join us every Tuesday!

Adult Paint Night
Join us on Tuesday, December 12th at 6:30pm for an evening of watercolor painting. Registration required. Space is limited 12 painters. Call 673-7888 to sign up.

TREE LIGHTING
On Saturday, December 9th at 5:30 pm we will host this year’s Tree Lighting and the celebration of Mont Vernon turning 220 years old this month!!! We have a magical evening planned. Please join us!

We’ll gather as a community outside our historic Town Hall, inside the community room, under the tent in the adjacent parking lot, and at the Fire Station. We’ll get to enjoy each other’s company, as well as an evening full of these winter festivities:

Cookies & Hot Cocoa under the tent️
Commemorative Ornament under the tent
MVFDA Chili Cook-off at the Fire Station
Kids Craft inside the Historic Town Hall’s Community Room

MONT VERNON YOUTH SKI CLUB
The snow is on its way! We are pleased that Crotched Mountain is continuing to offer a Youth Development Program available to Mont Vernon children again for the 2023-2024 season!

The program has undergone some recent modifications and is now called “Slope Days”. The program will offer two session options for 7 – 18-year-olds. At the time of this publication the registration details were not finalized. If you are interested in learning more about this program, please complete this google doc, and as soon as the details are finalized, you’ll be notified via email. We anticipate this will take place any day now, and the mountain is scheduled to open for the season on Friday, December 1st. We apologize for any inconvenience with this delay.

4TH ANNUAL SOUTHERN NH TOUR OF LIGHTS
The Southern New Hampshire Tour of Lights is a Multi-Town Recreation Department Holiday collaboration, and Mont Vernon can take part this year! Residents are encouraged to decorate the exterior of their homes with festive lights this upcoming holiday season and then register their address with the Recreation Department, no later than Monday, December 4th, by completing this google doc. This will guarantee your home is included in the official list of homes on the Southern New Hampshire Tour of Lights. The Tour of lights is a free event and a collaboration among 15+ communities in Southern New Hampshire. 

On Friday, December 8th, we will publicize a master list to the general public of all of the addresses in the communities who are participating in the Southern New Hampshire Tour of Lights. The purpose of this event is to provide a free family-friendly activity to go and take-in the festive lights & decorations, as well as explore local communities!

Homes on the tour are expected and encouraged to keep their lights shining from Saturday, December 9th - Monday, December 25th. 

***Homeowners must register their own home and agree to have their address publicized in order to appear on the list. There is no cost to participate in this program.*** 

UPCOMING MONT VERNON RECREATION IMPORTANT DATES
Southern NH Recreation Departments Tour of Lights ~ deadline to register your address is December 4th. Viewings will run from December 9th thru the 25th. Maps to be posted on December 8th.

EXERCISE GROUPS
Strength & Tone from Home: Tuesdays & Thursdays at 5:45 am via Zoom - 45-minute class of strength and conditioning workout led by personal trainer, Mary Rondeau.

Cardio & Toning in the Gym: Saturdays at 7:30 am in the Mont Vernon Village School gym - 45-minute cardio and toning workout led by fitness instructor, Mary Manseau.

Girl Scout Coat Drive

The Girl Scouts will be having a coat drive December 9th from 10am to 3pm at the Mont Vernon Fire Department, we are accepting coats of all sizes, new or used, and they will be donated to SHARE. Thanks!


Celebrate Mont Vernon's 220th Birthday With Tea!
Join Anna Szok of the Historical Society and Becci Schwarz of the Heritage Commission in celebration of Mont Vernon’s 220th “birthday” on December 16th, in the Town Hall Meeting Room. December 16, 2023, also marks 250 years since the Boston Tea Party, so we are commemorating that event as well! 

Attendees will be served tea and refreshments while enjoying a talk on the history of Mont Vernon by local historian and lifelong resident Anna Szok. 

Items on display will include the historic Mont Vernon Charter and the Historical Society’s own portion of tea from the Boston Tea Party! Reservations are recommended as space is limited. The cost for the event is $10 each which covers the cost of refreshments. Be sure to bring your camera for your very own commemorative photos with our original charter and/or tea from the Boston Tea Party. 

Seating will begin at 2pm, if there is enough interest, we will add a second seating at 4pm. RSVP to heritagecommission@montvernonnh.us

Mont Vernon historic gifts will be onsite for purchase as well as 2024 calendars from the Heritage Commission. 


Friends of the Library Coffee & Books Program

Friends of the Daland Memorial Library treat library visitors to coffee and cookies weekly, every Tuesday, from the fall to the spring. A team of Friends volunteer their time and ingredients to enhance the Library visit. Hope to see you there on a Tuesday! Meg Baker, President Friends of the Library


Patriotic Purposes Committee 
The Patriotic Purposes Committee hosted a Veterans appreciation activity on Nov 11 for Mont Vernon Veterans. Light refreshments were served. The attendees were treated to two performances by Mont Vernon Girl Scouts: Brownies and Juniors. The Brownies sang “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and the Juniors sang “God Bless the USA”. The young voices gave an awesome performance. The Historical Museum was open to enhance the afternoon. The Patriotic Purposes Committee appreciates the collaboration with the Mont Vernon Girl Scouts and the Historical Museum. We appreciate and value Veterans. Presidential Primary will be held on Tuesday January 23, 2024, at the Mont Vernon Village School from 7am-7pm.  Absentee Ballots Request forms can now be found on the Town Clerk Web page, or you can pick one up in the office.  I will be looking for volunteers to be ballots clerks and counters.  If you are interested in helping, please contact me at byeaton@montvernonnh.us and I’ll get you on the list.
