The Flyer - Spring Gala special

The 30th annual Mont Vernon Spring Gala will take place tomorrow - Saturday, May 20 - but Mother Nature is presenting us with a bit of a weather challenge this year! After lots of conversations with many of you, our plan as of Friday morning is as follows:

- Keep the Pancake Breakfast, Races, and Parade as scheduled, rain or shine. We may have a few changes to the parade lineup, but everything from 7 am thru 11:20 am will take place, as originally planned. See details below.

- With the current weather prediction of steady rain, and heavy at times, starting around 11 am, we plan to bring the "after-parade" activities into the MVVS MPR, which will begin at approximately 11:20 am. The parade route will be adjusted slightly so that it turns down Pinkham Ave. and will end at the MVVS parking lot. We are hopeful that this will lure people to the MVVS. The rest of the day will largely happen but might have slight time modifications.

If the weather shows significant improvement for Saturday afternoon, we are set up to go back to the original outdoor schedule and venue, as Spring Gala is most enjoyed on our Green! If we do see improvement, we plan to make this decision to move back outside around 6 pm Friday evening. Thank you for your flexibility!!

GALA SCHEDULE:

• 7 - 10 a.m.: Pancake breakfast in the Fire House.
• 8:30 a.m.: 1-mile Fun Run, starting at Town Hall
• 9 a.m.: 5K Road Race, starting at Town Hall
• 9 a.m.: Plant sale begins at the Library
• 10:20 a.m.: Parade lineup on Blood Road
• 11 a.m.: Parade down Main Street
• 11:20 - 2 p.m.: Games, presentation of awards for bikes and parade, grand marshal presentation, pie-eating contest, either in the green or MVVS depending on the weather!
